The eFlex Convenience Card allows you to directly pay for your eligible Health Flex Plan expenses at the point of service. This helps you to avoid the traditional hassles of a Flex Plan such as paying cash for services (in addition to your payroll deduction), filling out and submitting a claim form, and waiting for a reimbursement check.
Your Convenience Card works just like any credit card. However, there three important differences:
- First, its use is limited to specific merchants based on the benefit account you have selected and to expenses deemed eligible by your plan (i.e. Grocery Store, Pharmacy, or Doctor's office). When you pay for your expense(s), your card may be declined if the card does not read the proper "Merchant Code." If this happens to you, please pay the expense(s) out-of-pocket and manually submit a claim for reimbursement.
- Second, you can't use it at an ATM terminal, or obtain "cash back" when making a purchase.
- Third, you are not given a PIN number with this card. Should a merchant or provider ask for a PIN number, just explain that this particular card doesn't have one. Usually the merchant has a "credit" option.
